Noida Traffic Challan Check Online (2026): Check, Pay, Dispute and New 45-Day Rule

You can do a Noida traffic challan check online in about a minute on the government’s eChallan portal (echallan.parivahan.gov.in) using your vehicle number, challan number or driving licence number. Every challan issued by the Gautam Buddh Nagar traffic police, whether by a camera or by an officer’s handheld device, goes into this national database. Below you will find the exact steps, how to pay or dispute a challan, what happens if it has gone to the virtual court, and the new 2026 rules that make ignoring a challan much riskier.

How to check a Noida traffic challan online (step by step)

Noida and Greater Noida both fall under the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate, and their traffic police issue e-challans on the national eChallan system. There is no separate “Noida-only” website you need, and you should be wary of any site that claims to be one.

1. Open echallan.parivahan.gov.in and choose Check Challan Status.
2. Pick one of three options: Challan Number, Vehicle Number or DL Number.
3. If you search by vehicle number, you will usually also be asked for the last digits of the chassis or engine number. You will find these on your RC.
4. Enter the captcha and click Get Detail.
5. The result lists each challan with its number, date, place, offence, amount and status (Pending, Paid, or sent to court).

Many camera challans also come with a photo of the violation. Open the challan to see it. Checking the photo is the fastest way to tell whether the challan really belongs to your vehicle.

Other ways to check

• SMS: the owner’s registered mobile number normally gets an SMS with a link when a challan is created. If your RC still has an old number, update it on the Vahan portal so you don’t miss these.
• mParivahan app: the government app shows challans linked to your RC and DL.
• Private apps (car-info, insurance and parking apps): handy for reminders, but they read the same government data. Pay on the official portal if you want to avoid convenience fees.

How to pay a Noida e-challan online

1. After checking status, select the pending challan and click Pay Now.
2. An OTP is sent to the mobile number linked to the vehicle or licence. Enter it to continue.
3. You are sent to the payment gateway. Pay by UPI, debit or credit card, or net banking.
4. Download and save the receipt (PDF). Screenshot the transaction ID as well.
5. Check the status again after a few hours. It should now show as Paid. Gateway delays sometimes take up to a day or two.

Common traffic fines in Noida (UP)

Fines in Uttar Pradesh follow the Motor Vehicles Act as amended in 2019 and UP’s own compounding notification. The table shows amounts widely reported for UP. New in 2026: 45 days to pay or contest

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways amended the Central Motor Vehicles Rules in January 2026 (the Central Motor Vehicles (Third Amendment) Rules, 2026, G.S.R. 48(E), dated 21 January 2026). As explained in official summaries and news reports, the main changes are:

• Five-offence rule: the licensing authority can disqualify a driver who commits five or more offences in one year, counted from 1 January 2026. Offences from earlier years are not carried forward.
• 45-day window: after you receive a challan, you have 45 days to pay it or contest it with documents on the portal. If you do nothing, the challan is treated as accepted.
• After rejection: if your challenge is rejected, reports say you must pay within 30 days, or deposit 50% of the amount if you appeal in court.
• Blocked services: unpaid challans can stop DL and RC applications, such as transfer of ownership or renewal, until they are cleared.

How exactly UP applies each point is decided by the state transport department and the courts. So the safe habit is simple: check your challans every month and deal with each one within 45 days.

Challan sent to court: using the Virtual Court

If a challan is not paid on time, or if the offence cannot be settled by the police, it is sent to court. Noida has had a virtual court for traffic challans since July 2021, so you don’t have to appear in person for routine cases.

1. Go to vcourts.gov.in and choose the Uttar Pradesh traffic court (Gautam Buddh Nagar will be listed under it where available).
2. Search using the challan number, vehicle number or CNR number.
3. If the judge has proposed a fine, you can accept it and pay online. After you pay, the case is disposed of.
4. If you want to contest the case, choose that option. The matter will then go to the regular court at Surajpur (District Court, Gautam Buddh Nagar).

Lok Adalat: can you reduce a Noida challan?

National Lok Adalats are held several times a year, usually on a Saturday, under the National Legal Services Authority. In UP they are run by the District Legal Services Authority. Eligible pending traffic challans, mostly minor compoundable offences already sent to court, can be settled there, sometimes for less than the full amount. Serious offences such as drunk driving, hit-and-run or accident cases are usually not eligible. The schedule is published by the UP State Legal Services Authority. Check the notice for the next date and the token process, and be cautious of paid “challan settlement” agents promising guaranteed waivers.

Also note that in June 2023 the UP government cancelled pending challans issued between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2021 through an ordinance. If an old challan from that period still shows on the portal, raise it with the transport office rather than paying it without checking.

How to dispute a wrong challan

Wrong challans do happen: a mistyped number plate, a cloned plate, or a car you have already sold.

• Check the photo and location first. If the car in the photo is a different make or colour, it is a strong sign of a misread or cloned plate.
• Raise a grievance on the eChallan portal within the 45-day window. Attach proof such as your RC, a clear photo of your car, your fuel or toll receipt showing you were elsewhere, or sale documents with Form 29/30 if you had sold the vehicle.
• Tag or message the Noida Traffic Police on their official social media handle (@Noidatraffic on X) with the challan number. Never post your full DL or Aadhaar publicly.
• Cloned plate? File a police complaint. Keep the FIR or complaint copy, because it helps with every later dispute.

Tips and mistakes to avoid

• Only use the official domain. Pay only on echallan.parivahan.gov.in or vcourts.gov.in. Fake “e-challan” SMS and WhatsApp messages with shortened links or .apk files are a known fraud trick. The government never asks you to install an app from a message.
• Keep your mobile number updated on your RC and DL. Without it you can’t get the OTP to pay, and you won’t receive challan alerts.
• Check before selling or buying a car. Pending challans can block the ownership transfer at the ARTO. Buyers should ask the seller to clear them first.
• Watch expressway speed limits. The Noida–Greater Noida Expressway, DND and Yamuna Expressway have cameras. Limits differ by stretch and vehicle type, so follow the signboards, not your navigation app.
• Don’t ignore small challans. Under the 2026 rules, five offences in a year can put your licence at risk, even if each fine was only ₹1,000.
• Keep the receipt until the status shows Paid. It is your proof if the payment gets stuck.
• Check fleet or office vehicles too. Companies with cab fleets should check challans by vehicle number every week, because the registered owner is liable.
